Native lists inside Slack — convenient if you live in Slack, severely limited if you want a real task system.
Slack Lists is a brand-new (late 2024) task feature inside Slack — convenient for shared lists in channels, severely limited as a real productivity system. No priorities, no recurring tasks, no habits, no calendar, no personal layer. LemTask gives you all of that plus webhook integration with Slack channels for the cross-posting moments that matter. Slack Lists is a feature; LemTask is an app.
Gamified task management with voice input, AI suggestions, and fun productivity features.
Slack-first teams who want shared lists where conversations already happen.

Slack Lists, launched late 2024, is Slack's answer to 'tasks should be where the conversation is'. The integration is genuinely tight — a list lives inside a channel, items can be assigned with @-mentions, and updates broadcast to the channel automatically. As a shared coordination tool inside an active Slack workspace, it's useful. As a personal task manager, it's purposefully thin: no priorities, no recurring tasks, no habits, no calendar view, no review ritual. The bigger philosophical issue is portability — your tasks become hostage to your Slack subscription. If your company switches to Teams or Discord, your task history goes with the workspace deletion. LemTask sits outside any chat tool: tasks are yours, integrate via webhook with whatever chat app you use today, and stay yours when you change tools tomorrow.
We built LemTask, so we'd love to say it wins everywhere. It doesn't. Here's where Slack Lists is the better pick — honestly.
List items live inside the channel where the work is being discussed — no context switching.
Custom fields per list (status, owner, due date, free-text) are flexible for ad-hoc team tracking.
Real-time multiplayer editing of list rows is genuinely seamless.
Free if your team is already on a paid Slack plan — no incremental cost.
Your tasks shouldn't disappear if you change chat tools. LemTask is portable.
We do personal AND team. Slack Lists is shared-only.
XP, habits, streaks — none of which Slack will ever ship.
If your team genuinely lives in Slack 8 hours a day, having lists in-channel is a real workflow win. We say so.
"Slack Lists are convenient for the shared launch checklist. For my personal week and habits, I use LemTask. Different jobs."

Switched from Slack Lists
Spin the wheel and see who wins each feature matchup!
A quick, no-data-loss migration in a few steps.
In a List, click the ••• menu → Export → CSV. Each list exports its rows with all custom field values preserved.
Settings → Import → CSV. Map the title, assignee, due-date and status columns. Each Slack List becomes a LemTask project.
If you want LemTask task updates to post into a Slack channel, add the LemTask Slack integration. Pick which channels receive which project updates — channel-by-channel control.
Slack Lists' generic 'priority' custom field becomes LemTask's native P1/P2/P3. Status fields map to Kanban columns. We auto-suggest the mapping during import.
Not really. Slack Lists is a structured-data feature inside Slack — closer to a real-time-multiplayer Google Sheet than a task app. There's no priority system, no recurring tasks, no habits, no calendar view and no review ritual. For shared coordination inside an active Slack workspace it's useful. For personal task management or any serious productivity system, it's missing the entire layer that makes a task app worth using.
Yes. Inside any Slack List, click ••• → Export → CSV. Upload via LemTask's Settings → Import → CSV. We map title, assignee, due date and status columns automatically; custom fields become LemTask tags or priorities depending on the field type. Each Slack List becomes a LemTask project so the structure carries over cleanly.
Yes, on the Pro plan. The integration posts task updates (created, completed, overdue) to the Slack channels you choose, and you can create tasks from a Slack message via slash command (/lemtask new ...). It's not as deep as Slack Lists' in-channel multiplayer editing, but it covers the cross-posting moments that matter.
They go with the workspace. If your company switches from Slack to Teams, Discord or Zoom Chat, your Slack Lists are deleted along with the workspace itself (or trapped behind an export script). LemTask sits outside any chat tool — your tasks are yours, exportable any time, portable across whatever chat app your team uses next.
Roughly comparable. Slack Lists is free if you're already on a paid Slack plan ($7.25/user/mo Pro and up). LemTask Teams starts at $6/user/mo standalone. If you're already paying for Slack, Slack Lists is the cheaper add-on. If you're considering Slack purely for the Lists feature, LemTask is meaningfully cheaper and gives you a real task system.
Not natively the same way Slack Lists does — that's a Slack strength. Our equivalent is the Slack webhook integration: task updates post to whichever channel you've connected, in real time. The difference is direction: in Slack Lists, the list IS the channel; in LemTask, the list is the source of truth and the channel sees notifications. Different design, similar net result for most workflows.
Three reasons: portability (your tasks shouldn't be hostage to your chat tool), personal task layer (Slack Lists is shared-only), and real productivity features (priorities, habits, recurring tasks, focus timer — none of which Slack will ever ship). Teams that adopt LemTask typically keep Slack for chat, drop Slack Lists, and get a real task system at the same time.
Yes — custom fields are available on the Pro plan and Teams plan. We support text, number, date, dropdown and checkbox custom fields per project. The fundamental difference is that LemTask's custom fields sit alongside native priority, due date, recurrence and assignment — Slack Lists relies on custom fields for everything because there's no native task model underneath.
