Habit Stacking: Attach New Habits to Ones You Already Do

Habit stacking, popularised by James Clear in Atomic Habits, is a technique where you attach a new habit to an existing one using the formula: after I [current habit], I will [new habit]. It works because your existing habits are already triggered automatically by cues in your environment, so the new behaviour inherits that trigger.

The problem with new habits: no cue. The fix: bolt them onto a habit you already have.

    The formula

    > After I [existing habit], I will [new habit].

    Examples that stick

How to set it up in LemTask

    1. Create the new habit in the Habits section
    2. In the Notes field, write the anchor (*after morning coffee*)
    3. Set the reminder time to roughly when the anchor happens

Why it works: you're not building willpower. You're piggybacking on wiring your brain already installed.
