    Question 1 of 50%

Why is the task you've been delaying still not done?

"Just stop procrastinating" doesn't work because procrastination isn't one thing. Different procrastinators delay for different reasons, and the same advice fails most of them because it's calibrated for someone else's pattern. This free quiz uses five behavioural questions to place you into one of four procrastinator types — and gives you the specific fix that works for your type, not the generic version.

The four types are: Perfectionists (paralysed by the gap between vision and current ability), Avoiders (delay anything emotionally uncomfortable, even when objectively easy), Crisis-Makers (need adrenaline to start, so manufacture deadlines), and Dreamers (full of ideas, low on execution, drift toward novel inputs). Each type has a different root cause, a different failure mode, and therefore a different fix. A Perfectionist needs lower standards on the first draft. An Avoider needs the emotion named, not better time management. A Crisis-Maker needs structured intermediate deadlines, not the same final deadline. A Dreamer needs constrained input and a single-output rule.

This is not pop psychology — the four-type framework is loosely adapted from Linda Sapadin's clinical work and Tim Pychyl's emotion-regulation model of procrastination. We've simplified it for self-assessment and made the recommendations more concrete. It's a useful starting point, not a clinical instrument.

The quiz scores you across four traits and the highest trait determines your type. You'll see the type description, your dominant trait, what's going right for that pattern, and three habits that consistently break the procrastination loop for your specific type. The shareable result is great for comparing with friends or partners — most close relationships have two different types, and naming them reduces the friction.

If procrastination is causing serious harm in your life — missing rent, jeopardising work, damaging relationships — please talk to a therapist. Chronic procrastination is often a symptom of ADHD, depression, anxiety, or trauma. A self-quiz can help you see the pattern; addressing the cause usually needs more.
